BREAKING NEWS!!!

Daddy just got 2 KISSES from Leeza!!!

Life is grand in Almaty, just grand!

At lunch today, we met 3 pilots for Air Astana, and they took our map and told us some things to go and do. It was great talking to them-they were great guys!

We walked to a nearby museum too that was REALLY interesting.

Leeza has just been amazing. She just seems to get happier, and easier, the more time we spend with her. Let's hope that continues cuz I am a bit anxious about the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG flights home!

Picky eater? Not anymore! She will eat most anything! I tried baby food again as I'm looking for stuff to feed her on the plane, and before, she SPIT IT RIGHT OUT. She ate it today, but she preferred to eat the chicken and cheese we had for dinner.

She is just a lil enchantress-we are having a blast with her.
Now that we have her potty-there is no stopping her!

We look forward to seeing Alysa and Brady tomorrow. Joe said I cannot buy anymore souvenirs since we already paid several hundred dollars in overweight fees, but I say PISH POSH TO THAT!

Our digs in Almaty
Oh, some have asked where we are staying. I had to ask, because I have no idea where we are. :) We are in the Somal district, near the Central Ramstore, 3 blocks from Hotel Kazakhstan, near the embassy. There is a really nice playground outside our apartment building, especially when compared to the playgrounds in Kostanai. There is also a lil grocery store that is about a 5 second walk. It's very convenient and Joe got some chicken there tonight that was really good!

The pilots we met told us we need to try a restaurant called Guns and Roses, that is close by, and that we are within walking distance of Mad Murphy's. They showed us on the map that the lovely lady named Christine from Austrilia gave us.
They skyped us earlier and invited us over to their place at 8, but we declined. Leeza was on her potty and it was fixin to be bath and bedtime...no partying for us tonight! They did tell Joe where a Guinness pub is close by, which he was excited to hear about, but we'll see.

We have heard so many english speakers here, it's so cool to hear English!! Almaty is defintely citified, and defintely pricey! Our apartment and the potty have both been 3x the amount we paid in Kostanai..good thing we're almost home!!

I need to take some pictures too but the BIG NEWS is that Leeza kissed her daddy. :)

She doesn't give kisses lightly, and she won't do them on demand. She's gotta "feel the love" for you to get a kiss, and she has clearly fallen for her daddy. :)

We are so glad everything worked out with your flights. The baggage charges can be brutal in Kaz. You all seem to be doing amazingly well. You are really in the last of it now.

In taking Leeza to Kok Tobe, you join the hundreds if not thousands of other adoptive families who have made that trip, seen that view, taken that photo of the Beatles, and wondered if the roller coaster really was safe. I hope you had good weather.

We were there days before Christmas '07 with Aila & Co., you are now there some ten months later, and hopefully sometime in the next ten months we'll be there again with a sibling for Tougy.

Enjoy your time together. I can't help but think that all this positive energy and support you are getting from strangers and others there in Kaz only mirrors what you put out. Can't wait to meet you all someday - and speaking of that, KJ, Tougy and I plan to visit the Big Mouse in the 20's of Jan. Maybe we can get together around there. Take Care.

Lots of love,
Us

YAY FOR KISSES! And yay for Almaty! Marshall and I never made it to the Guinness place...we found out about it once we had Aila. Hope you get there! Sounds like you're in a great spot! Glad it is all going so well! You're almost home!!!

Sweet kisses for daddy??? That's much more exciting than all the breaking news about the election here!

I have so enjoyed reading your last few posts, and can feel the excitement/panic/love in your words. You are having a ball, aren't you? I'm so glad the flights worked out, but what a scary situation!

You will have a hard time containing yourself on the 3rd floor of the Tsum store. So many awesome souvenirs. If it weren't for luggage restrictions I would have gone overboard easily! It's so cool to know that your feet are hitting some of the exact same footsteps as me, and so many other families who've been there.

I'm excited you and Alysa are getting together. Please give her and Brady a big hug for me! And yes, as Steve suggests, do make a point to go to Kok Tobe. It was my favorite outing by far.

Let the countdown begin!

Oh how sweet! Yay Joe!

As for the flights, I had to tell myself, "It's only 24 hours. It's only 24 hours..." :-)

Funny, as we set out to leave in 7 days, I'm saying the same thing to myself. :-)

Hi guys! Sean called today and told me he was going to Atlanta for sure this weekend. Sounds neat, going out of town with a special friend! You three are in a whirlwind of an adventure I'd say!Try to find some baby benadryl for the flights home. I took a peek in Leeza's room today. Totally amazing! All of her stuff is very beautiful and she is going to be so happy to get home!

Susan, We stayed at the hotel Kazakhstan and that is where Guns and Roses Restaurant is located on the second floor. I had a fajita there which was good. I think I know where you are because we went to that grocery store a couple of times. There are a lot of good places in that area and you are within walking distance of Kok Tobe. You can catch the bus across the street from Hotel Kazakhstan to Medeu. It is only a 30 minute crowded bus ride. There are cars waiting outside of Medeu and you can ask a driver to take you up to the top so you don't have to walk all of those steps. The view is worth it. We went to a nice outdoor cafe about a block from the grocery store. I forget what it was called though. Kok Tobe is a couple of blocks past Hotel Kazakhstan, past a large building with beautiful gardens in front of it. I hope you enjoy yourselves and have a great trip home.
